Travel Information
Visa: If you are required to have a visa to
enter the USA, you should apply for a visitor (B-2) visa, not a student
visa. Because we do not grant academic degrees or credit, you do not
need (and you will not be able to obtain) a student visa to attend
courses at the Acadia Center.
Arrival and departure: You should arrive on Sunday and
depart on Saturday. Classes are Monday through Friday.
Our location: The Acadia Center's programs take place in
Thomaston, Maine, USA. The nearest airports are in Rockland (Maine)
and Portland (Maine). Rockland is a 10-minute drive from Thomaston,
and Portland is a 90-minute drive from Thomaston.
Buying your airplane ticket: Prices vary widely depending on
your point of departure and the date you are flying. If low cost is
important to you, do a price comparison of flights to Rockland (RKD),
Portland (PWM), and Boston (BOS), and then figure in the cost of
transportation between the airport and Thomaston.
- Fly to Rockland (Maine): airport code: RKD.
Rockland (Knox County) Airport is only 10 minutes by car from Thomaston. US
Airways (via Colgan Air) offers several daily non-stop flights between Boston
and Rockland. If you fly to Rockland, we will meet you at Rockland Airport
and give you a ride to your homestay in Thomaston (there is no charge for
this service).
- Fly to Portland (Maine): airport code: PWM.
(Make sure you book your flight to Portland, MAINE, not Portland, Oregon.)
Portland is 90 minutes by car from Thomaston. Major airlines serving
Portland International Jetport include Air Tran, Continental, Delta, Jet Blue,
Northwest, United, and US Airways. There are frequent non-stop flights between
Portland and many US cities. If you fly to Portland, we will reserve a group
mini-van taxi service to meet you at the airport and bring you to your homestay
in Thomaston. The fee for the taxi is $75 per passenger (plus tip) for the
one-way trip between Portland and Thomaston, payable to the driver. Please
note that the taxi service will not pick you up in Portland after 11:30 pm,
so if you arrive after that time you will have to stay at a hotel overnight
in Portland and travel to Thomaston the next day.
- Fly to Boston (Logan Airport): airport code: BOS.
Concord Trailways offers hourly bus service between Boston and Portland
and twice-daily bus service between Boston and Rockland. Reservations are
not necessary (and not available).
Travel time by bus between Boston's
Logan Airport and Portland is about 2 hours. The one-way fare is $25. If
you take the bus to Portland, we will reserve a group mini-van taxi service
to meet you at the bus station in Portland and bring you to your homestay
in Thomaston (90 minutes by taxi). The fee for the taxi is $75 per passenger
(plus tip) for the one-way trip between Portland and Thomaston, payable to
the driver. Please note that the taxi service will not pick you up in
Portland after 11:30 pm, so if you arrive after that time you will have to
stay at a hotel overnight in Portland and travel to Thomaston the next day.

The one-way fare is $34. If you take the bus from Boston to Rockland, we will
meet you in Rockland and give you a ride to your homestay in Thomaston (10 minutes by car).

Center is about 500 km from Québec City and about 600 km
from Montréal.
