Travel Information
Visa: If you are required to have a visa
to enter the USA, you should apply for a visitor (B-2) visa, not
a student visa. Because we do not grant academic degrees or credit,
you do not need (and you will not be able to obtain) a student visa
to attend courses at the Acadia Center.
Arrival and Departure: Students arrive any time after 12
noon on Saturday and depart by 12 noon on Saturday. Classes begin
on Monday morning.
Airport Transfers: The Acadia Centers programs take
place in Thomaston, Maine, USA. The nearest airports are in Rockland
(Maine) and Portland (Maine). Rockland is a 10-minute drive from
Thomaston, and Portland is a 90-minute drive from Thomaston. We
will meet you in either Rockland or Portland and give you a ride
to Thomaston. Transportation between Rockland or Portland and the
Acadia Center is provided on the first and last days of your course
and the cost is included in your course fee.
Buying your Airplane Ticket: To find the lowest airplane
fares, ask your local travel agent. Prices vary widely depending
on your point of departure and the date you are flying. Flying to
Portland is generally less expensive than flying to Rockland, and
flying to Boston and taking the bus to Portland is often (but not
always) less expensive than flying directly to Portland. If low
cost is important to you, ask your travel agent for a price comparison
of flights to Portland and Boston, as well as a price comparison
of weekday and weekend flights.
- Fly to Rockland (Maine).
US Air (via Colgan Air) offers several daily non-stop flights
between Boston and Rocklands Knox County Airport. We will
meet you at Rockland Airport and give you a ride to the Acadia
Center, which is 10 minutes by car from the airport.
- Fly to Portland (Maine). (Make
sure you book your flight to Portland, MAINE, not Portland, Oregon.)
Major airlines serving Portland International Jetport include
American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, United, and US Airways.
There are frequent non-stop flights between Portland and Boston,
New York, Washington DC, Chicago, and other major cities. We will
meet you at Portland Airport and give you a ride to the Acadia
Center. Driving time is 90 minutes.
- Fly to Boston and take the bus to Portland.
Concord Trailways offers frequent bus service between Boston and
Portland. Travel time by bus from Bostons Logan Airport
to Portland is about 3 hours. The one-way fare is $22; round-trip
is $36 (no reservations are necessary). We will meet you at the
Concord Trailways bus station in Portland and give you a ride
to the Acadia Center (90 minutes).
Travel by Car from Québec: The Acadia
Center is about 500 km from Québec City and about 600 km
from Montréal. If you are planning to drive from Québec
to the Acadia Center, please contact us for directions.
