Travel Information

Visa: If you are required to have a visa to enter the USA, you should apply for a visitor (B-2) visa, not a student visa. Because we do not grant academic degrees or credit, you do not need (and you will not be able to obtain) a student visa to attend courses at the Acadia Center.

Arrival and Departure: Students arrive any time after 12 noon on Saturday and depart by 12 noon on Saturday. Classes begin on Monday morning.

Airport Transfers: The Acadia Center’s programs take place in Thomaston, Maine, USA. The nearest airports are in Rockland (Maine) and Portland (Maine). Rockland is a 10-minute drive from Thomaston, and Portland is a 90-minute drive from Thomaston. We will meet you in either Rockland or Portland and give you a ride to Thomaston. Transportation between Rockland or Portland and the Acadia Center is provided on the first and last days of your course and the cost is included in your course fee.

Buying your Airplane Ticket: To find the lowest airplane fares, ask your local travel agent. Prices vary widely depending on your point of departure and the date you are flying. Flying to Portland is generally less expensive than flying to Rockland, and flying to Boston and taking the bus to Portland is often (but not always) less expensive than flying directly to Portland. If low cost is important to you, ask your travel agent for a price comparison of flights to Portland and Boston, as well as a price comparison of weekday and weekend flights.
